Nigeria Premier Football League outfit Ikorodu City has drawn criticism from football fans after removing a social media post welcoming presidential aspirant Peter Obi to their league clash against Enugu Rangers.
Obi watched the league game at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Sunday from the VIP section with Ikorodu City president Sanmi Doherty. He was joined by Ladipo Johnson and Aisha Jimoh, all National Democratic Congress presidential candidates.
The News Chronicle reports that Ikorodu City had initially uploaded a welcome message for Obi on X. The post was deleted hours after the club registered a 2 0 victory over the defending league champions.
The removal of the post immediately drew condemnation from fans with some suggesting that the club’s removal of the post was due to political pressure.

The club has yet to comment on why the message was taken down.
Football writer Olawale Adigun criticised the move saying the popularity of the NPFL would be enhanced with the presence of big names at its matches.
He described the deletion as a missed opportunity for Ikorodu City and the NPFL, particularly as the league continues to seek wider visibility and stronger public engagement.
Adigun also questioned the decision against the backdrop of other political events that have affected the domestic football calendar.
