The Federal University of Technology (FUT), Babura, Jigawa State, has announced a 100 percent waiver of tuition and school fees for students admitted to study B.Sc. Mathematics and B.Sc. Physics.
The university said the initiative was introduced to encourage more Nigerian students to pursue science-related courses and help address the shortage of skilled professionals in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medical Sciences (STEMM).
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the university’s Registrar, Mrs Fatima Muhammad, obtained by The News Chronicle on Wednesday.
According to the institution, beneficiaries of the programme will enjoy a complete waiver of tuition and school fees throughout their degree programmes.
“To address this gap, the Management of the Federal University of Technology, Babura has approved a waiver of school fees for candidates admitted into the B.Sc. Mathematics and B.Sc. Physics programmes,” the statement said.
The university explained that the policy was also designed to increase enrolment in Mathematics and Physics, which it described as critical to innovation, technological development, research and teaching.
Candidates who did not initially choose FUT Babura or either of the two courses during their JAMB registration can also benefit from the initiative, provided they meet the admission requirements.
The Registrar advised interested candidates to visit any accredited JAMB Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre to process a change of institution and course to FUT Babura.

“Interested and eligible candidates are advised to effect a change of institution and course to FUT, Babura at any JAMB CBT Centre,” she stated.
The university said the initiative would make science education more accessible, particularly to students from northern Nigeria and other underserved communities.
Prospective applicants were advised to contact the university’s admissions office for further information on admission requirements and the application process.
The fee waiver takes effect immediately for the current admission cycle, giving qualified candidates the opportunity to study Mathematics or Physics at FUT Babura without paying tuition or school fees.
