A 38-year-old man, Sunday Ogunleye, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court over allegations of child endangerment involving his 13-year-old son.
Ogunleye is facing a one-count charge bordering on the alleged endangerment of a minor.
The prosecution counsel, Inspector Yomi Osuolale, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offense on June 17 in Iworoko-Ekiti.
According to the prosecutor, Ogunleye allegedly failed to provide adequate care and support for his 13-year-old son, thereby exposing the child to danger.
Osuolale further alleged that the defendant had taken custody of the boy from his former wife so the child could live with him, but the teenager later went missing while in his care.
He said the alleged offense contravenes Section 257(1) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable the prosecution to study the case file and assemble its witnesses.
However, Ogunleye pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Defense counsel, Oluwafemi Alabi, urged the court to grant his client bail on liberal terms.
In her ruling, Magistrate Olubunmi Bamidele admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
The magistrate ordered that the surety must provide evidence of three years’ tax clearance.
The case was adjourned until July 22 for hearing.
