Jigawa Police Vow Tougher Child Protection

The Jigawa State Police Command has reaffirmed its resolve to shield children from abuse, exploitation and other social vices capable of destroying their future.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Haruna Yahaya, made the pledge on Thursday in Dutse while commemorating the 2026 Children’s Day celebration.

Yahaya said the command joined millions of Nigerians and the international community in celebrating the annual event dedicated to promoting the rights, welfare and future of children.

“On this memorable occasion, the command extends warm felicitations to all children across Jigawa State and Nigeria at large, as children remain the foundation of a peaceful, progressive and prosperous society.

“The command acknowledges the immense potential, creativity, intelligence and leadership qualities embedded in every child, therefore, it reiterates its unwavering commitment to protect them from all forms of abuse,” he said.

The police boss assured parents, teachers, guardians and residents that the command would continue to deepen community policing efforts, strengthen school safety programmes and promote child-friendly policing initiatives.

He explained that the measures, being pursued alongside relevant stakeholders, were aimed at creating a secure atmosphere where children could thrive academically and chase their aspirations without fear.

Yahaya also advised children to stay disciplined, remain focused on their studies and steer clear of criminal activities capable of throwing their future off course.

He further urged parents and guardians to nurture children with sound moral values, proper guidance, love and support, stressing that safeguarding children is a shared duty.

The commissioner wished children in Jigawa State and across the country a peaceful and joyful Children’s Day celebration.
