Tinubu Names New Heads for NECO, NBTE, Poly, National Library

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a fresh wave of appointments and tenure renewals across key federal education institutions, including the National Examinations Council (NECO), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam, and the National Library of Nigeria.

In a statement made available to The News Chronicle, the Presidency announced that Professor Modupe Adeola Adelabu has been appointed Chairman of the Governing Board of NECO, while Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi retains his position as Registrar of the examination body.

At the National Board for Technical Education, Professor Babatunde Salako has been appointed Chairman, bringing decades of academic and institutional leadership experience to the role. The President had earlier, on April 10, reappointed Professor Idris M. Bugaje as Executive Secretary for a second and final five-year term.

For the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam in Plateau State, Dr Bongfa Binfa has been appointed substantive Rector for a single five-year term. He succeeds Dr Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, the institution’s pioneer Rector, whose tenure ended on March 16, 2026, following a competitive selection process advertised in national newspapers.

Dr Binfa, a PhD holder in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, previously served as Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny, and lectured at the Federal Polytechnic, Idah.

In the National Library of Nigeria, Professor Chinwe Veronica Anunobi has had her tenure renewed for a final five-year term, having first assumed office in September 2021. Her renewal is expected to drive continuity in ongoing reforms, including the digitisation of library services and the completion of the National Library Headquarters in Abuja.

Since taking office, she has overseen several digital transformation initiatives, including the National Repository of Nigeria, the Newspaper and Magazine Locator, and the Index and Abstract of Nigerian Newspapers, alongside efforts to centralize and preserve national heritage collections.

The Presidency says the appointments and renewals are aimed at strengthening leadership, ensuring continuity, and advancing reforms across Nigeria’s education and knowledge institutions.
