Nigeria, a broken nation with bleak future, Monarch says, urges moral rebirth among citizens

The Traditional Ruler of Amawbia Community in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Igwe Uchenna Okonkwo, has described Nigeria as a broken nation with a bleak future, insisting that only a change of character by her leaders will turn around the nation’s fortunes.

Igwe Okonkwo made the remark on Friday in his palace, while playing host to the State Acting Director, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Barrister Ifeoma Chijioke, who paid him an advocacy visit, alongside members of her management staff.

He observed with great dismay that Nigerian leaders both present and in the past, had refused to tell Nigerians the real truth about the country as fathers, and blamed the gross misfortunes befalling Nigeria today on the abysmal performance of the leaders.

He called for total moral rebirth to save the country from total collapse.

The monarch condemned in its entirety, the high rate of moral decadence in the country, calling on the Nigerian lawmakers at all levels to work towards putting into practice the extant laws prohibiting all manners of immoral practice among all ages in the country.

He also decried the increase in unemployment among youths in the country, and maintained that no law is working effectively in the country today, hence, the impunity with which both the leaders and the led break the law.

“Nigeria has been turned into a family affair by the powers that be at the center. Government, and the Church have a lot of homework to do towards nipping the high rate of immoral practice, and unemployment among Nigerian youths in the bud,” he noted.

Igwe Okonkwo charged the leadership of NOA in the state, and at the National Headquarters of the Agency not to rest on their oars in educating the people on the inherent dangers of the lingering immortality, and other social vices, advocating reintroduction of moral lessons by the Church with a view to catching the youths young.

The Monarch, who spoke on sundry issues, noted that social media has done more harm than good to Nigerian youths, urging Nigerian lawmakers to urgently enact functional laws capable of prohibiting seductive content by youths, especially young girls who go about showcasing their nakedness in the name of content creation.

Speaking earlier on the reasons behind the visit, the State NOA Director, Barrister Chijioke, said it was to identify with the monarch and the entire Amawobia people for opening up a brand new chapter in the leadership of the community.

She noted that they also came to pay homage to the new Traditional Ruler of the Amawobia ancient kingdom, whose election, she said, was generally endorsed by the people.

Barrister Chijioke described NOA as the mouthpiece of the federal government, charged with the responsibility of sensitizing Nigerians on the government’s developmental programmes, policies, and activities, especially at the grassroots across the country.

“Our best method for reaching out to the greater segments of the Nigerian populace is through the Traditional Rulers.

“Our youths have completely derailed from the path of core values, hence our aggressive campaign message on moral rectitude in all corners of the country,” the NOA boss said.

In a vote of thanks, the Deputy Director, Civic, Ethics, Values and Democracy Education of the Agency, Mr. Remigius Obi, thanked Igwe Okonkwo, and his cabinet members for the warm reception accorded them, appealing for more robust relationship between NOA, Igwe Okonkwo, and the entire people of Amawbia.
