Tinubu Decorates Acting IGP Disu, Calls for Swift Action Against Banditry and Terrorism

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday charged Acting Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to restore public confidence, strengthen security, and tackle crime across Nigeria.

The directive came during Disu’s decoration at the State House, following the retirement of Kayode Egbetokun and pending ratification by the Nigeria Police Council and confirmation by the Senate. The council is scheduled to meet next week.

“I made this decision for you to assume this responsibility. I know your record. I saw your dedication in Lagos when I was governor,” Tinubu said, stressing the critical timing of Disu’s appointment.

The President urged Disu to lead firmly but fairly, demand professionalism at all levels, and prioritise the safety of lives and property. “It’s a daunting challenge. I know you can do it. You have my word and full support,” he added.

Tinubu called on the Acting IGP to advance the security pillars of his Renewed Hope Agenda and leverage his discipline, operational experience, and leadership to combat banditry, terrorism, and other criminal activities.

The President also paid tribute to outgoing IGP Kayode Egbetokun, acknowledging his contributions to maintaining law and order. “To the outgoing Inspector-General, we are a grateful nation. Nigeria appreciates your service. Your success is now part of your legacy,” Tinubu said, urging him to advise his successor.

He called on all security stakeholders to work collaboratively during this critical period to safeguard lives and property.

The decoration ceremony was attended by the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori; AIG Hakeem Odumosu (rtd); senior officials; and family members of the Acting IGP.
