President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday denied allegations that he was orchestrating attacks against the opposition, joking that he “doesn’t even have a licence to own a gun.”
Speaking during an interfaith Iftar with senators at the Presidential Villa, Tinubu said critics are entitled to their views but insisted he has committed no wrongdoing.
Addressing political defections, the president compared leaving certain parties to abandoning a “sinking ship,” while acknowledging the difficult security and economic challenges facing Nigeria, including terrorism and banditry.
He called on political leaders to embrace unity, echoing the vision of Nigeria’s founding fathers, and stressed that the country’s democratic framework favors cooperation over conflict.
Tinubu lauded efforts by leaders who, despite differences, are working together to strengthen national cohesion.
