Google has introduced a new artificial intelligence feature in Google Photos that lets you turn your personal photos into meme-style images using automated templates and image-generation tools.
The feature, called “Me Meme,” is currently rolling out as an experimental update in the United States on both Android and iOS devices. Google has not yet confirmed when it will become available in Nigeria or other regions.
Me Meme is located inside the Create tab of the Google Photos app, an area Google has been expanding with AI-powered tools in recent months.
According to Google, the feature lets users create personalised memes from their own photos without manual editing. “Me Meme uses generative AI to help users create fun, personalised images that can be saved or shared easily,” the company said.
To use the feature, users first select a meme template, either from Google’s preset options or by uploading a custom reference image.
They then choose a photo of themselves, preferably a clear, front-facing selfie. Once both are selected, tapping Generate prompts the AI to place the user’s face into the selected template and produce a meme-style image.
Unlike traditional meme apps that require users to manually add text or crop images, Me Meme relies on AI to automatically adapt the user’s photo to the scene, adjusting positioning and visual style.
After the meme is generated, users can save it to their photo library, regenerate a new version, or share it on social media and messaging platforms. Google has also added an option for users to send feedback on the generated results.
The new feature joins other AI tools already available in Google Photos, including Create with AI, Photo to video, Remix, Collage, Highlight video, Cinematic photo and Animation.
These updates point to Google’s effort to turn Photos from a simple storage app into a creative platform.
Google has not announced a timeline for expanding Me Meme beyond the United States, and the feature is not appearing consistently even on supported devices there.
