Fresh consignments of live ammunition have been discovered in the Kumshe area of Maiduguri, Borno State, just days after a large cache was recovered by the Nigerian Army in Bulunkutu.
A local resident, who spoke to The News Chronicle on condition of anonymity, confirmed that police operatives and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) were securing the scene beside the railway line as of Sunday.
“The police and CJTF are already securing the area; the anti-bomb squad are currently on the ground,” the source said.
Kumshe is located near the former headquarters of the late Boko Haram leader, Mohammed Yusuf, popularly known as Markas, a site historically associated with insurgent activities.
The recovered ammunition has been secured by the Police Command, while investigations are ongoing to trace its source, determine its intended use, and apprehend those behind the concealment.
Commending members of the public for providing timely and actionable intelligence, the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, PSC, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and sustained efforts to safeguard lives and property across the state.
He also urged residents to continue supporting the Police by promptly reporting suspicious movements or activities in their communities.
