Terrorists have attacked Unguwar Daudu community in Dukke Ward of Funtua Local Government Area, Katsina State, injuring two residents and abducting no fewer than 20 others.
The attack occurred on Sunday night, January 4, 2026, when heavily armed assailants stormed the rural community, firing sporadically and causing widespread panic among residents.
A Katsina-based security expert, Malam Bakatsine, confirmed the incident on Monday, noting that the attack took place despite several peace agreements recently brokered between local authorities and armed groups operating in the area.
Funtua is among several local government areas in Katsina State that have continued to witness repeated attacks by armed groups, with residents frequently affected by kidnappings, killings, and displacement.
In a related incident, bandits had earlier killed two people and injured six others during an attack on Naino village in Naalma Ward of Malumfashi Local Government Area on January 1.
According to security sources, the attackers entered the village around 6:30 a.m. from the direction of Musawa, shooting indiscriminately and leaving at least eight people with gunshot wounds.
Security intelligence expert disclosed that joint security forces were immediately deployed to the area, while the injured victims were evacuated to Malumfashi General Hospital for treatment.
Hospital sources confirmed that two of the victims, identified as Kamala Lawal, 35, and Tijjani Umaru, 35, were pronounced dead on arrival. The remaining six victims are currently receiving medical care.
Following the attacks, security operatives reportedly mounted blockades along suspected escape routes and launched cordon-and-search operations in surrounding communities to track down and apprehend the perpetrators.
