The newly elected Vice Chairman of Biu Local Government Area in Borno State, Alhaji Saidu, has been abducted along with two councillors representing Zarawuyaku and Miringa wards.
The incident reportedly happened on Wednesday evening along the Kamuya village–Buni Yadi road.
The victims were travelling from Biu to Maiduguri when they were intercepted by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.
Also abducted during the attack were some unidentified passengers who were travelling in a Hisbah vehicle from Potiskum in Yobe State to Biu.
Sources confirmed that one of the abducted councillors is a former Vice Chairman of Biu Local Government Area.
A senior politician, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the abduction and appealed to the government and security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the victims and other captives.
The Biu–Buratai–Kamuya–Buni– Damaturu road has remained highly dangerous, with several cases of killings and abductions recorded along the route in recent times.
