Kaduna JSC Suspends Two Court Registrars Over Alleged Misconduct

—

The Kaduna State Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has swung the disciplinary gavel, suspending two court registrars over alleged acts of misconduct.

The decision was disclosed in a statement released on Thursday in Kaduna by the commission’s Secretary, Murtala Halidu.

According to him, the measures formed part of far-reaching administrative and disciplinary resolutions reached at the JSC’s Tuesday meeting, presided over by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice M.T.M. Aliyu.

Halidu explained that the sanctions followed the commission’s adoption of the findings and recommendations arising from investigations conducted by the Judicial Staff Service Committee.

He said Iliya Awok, an Assistant Chief Registrar, was suspended for falsification of records, an offence described as grave misconduct.

In the same vein, Mohammed Salisu-Mohammed, a Principal Court Registrar at the Chief Magistrate Court on Daura Road, was also suspended for the unauthorised auction of three court-attached vehicles, alongside other alleged misconduct.

In another disciplinary move, the commission demoted Sanusi Musa, a Higher Administrative Officer, for posting politically sensitive content on Facebook, an action said to be at odds with the principle of public service neutrality.

The JSC also approved the interdiction of Aliyu Yakubu-Dogara, a Deputy Chief Registrar, and Salisu Maigana, a Court Bailiff, over their alleged roles in the unauthorised sale of court-attached vehicles.

Halidu noted that the interdictions would remain in force pending the conclusion of further investigations to determine the extent of their involvement.

He added that a petition filed against Saidu Babanja’e, the Presiding Judge of the Principal District Court, Daura Road, Kaduna, was thrown out after it was found to be lacking substance.

Reiterating the commission’s stance, Halidu said the JSC maintained a zero-tolerance posture toward corruption and indiscipline within the judiciary, stressing its resolve to safeguard integrity, discipline and professionalism across the judicial service.

Meanwhile, the statement also announced the confirmation of Gladys Nathan’s appointment as Deputy Chief Registrar of the Customary Court of Appeal in Kaduna State.
