Kidnappers Demand N150 Million to Free Six Defence Ministry Directors

The abductors of six senior directors from the Federal Ministry of Defence have demanded a ransom of N150 million, worsening the fear and distress already faced by the victims’ families.

According to relatives, the huge ransom request has increased their trauma, as they have no idea how to raise such an amount.

“We are still traumatised by what happened. Now the kidnappers are asking for N150 million for all six of them. How can we possibly raise such a huge sum? We are begging them to release our loved ones safely. That is all we can ask for,” a family member told the Daily Post.

The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria condemned the incident in a statement signed by its President, Shehu Mohammed, and Secretary General, Joshua Apebo.

“These Directors, who are members of our Union and staff of Command Day Secondary School (CDSS), Ojo, Lagos, were travelling for an official promotion exam when they were kidnapped,” the statement said.

The union added that the Ministry of Defence has deployed security operatives to help rescue the victims.

It also repeated its call for decentralised promotion examinations so workers would no longer need to travel long distances.

Security sources described the kidnapping as a “well-coordinated attack,” raising more concerns about the safety of civil servants on official duties.

Meanwhile, families continue to appeal to the kidnappers to show mercy and release the victims unharmed.
