Heavy Security Watch Ahead of Osun Governorship Poll

Security operatives have intensified patrols and surveillance across Ile-Ife ahead of Saturday’s Osun governorship election to ensure a peaceful exercise and protect residents and electoral materials.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) observed on Friday that security personnel had been deployed to major roads and strategic locations across the ancient city as preparations for the election continued.

The presence of security operatives was noticeable around several parts of Ile-Ife, while residents continued their normal activities without any major disruption reported.

Security personnel were deployed to areas including Oduduwa University, Ipetumodu, Mayfair, Lagere and Garage-Ilesa, among others, as security coverage was expanded across the city.

The intensified patrols are aimed at preventing violence, electoral malpractice and other criminal activities before, during and after the election, while ensuring the safety of residents.

According to reports, personnel from the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) were deployed across the city to maintain law and order and monitor the electoral process.

The Osun governorship election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, Aug. 15, with security agencies expected to sustain their operations before, during and after voting.

Residents are urged to exercise their franchise peacefully and refrain from acts that could disrupt the electoral process or endanger the lives and property of others.
