The National Coordinator of BRAVE-IT (Building Resilience Against Violent Extremism, Insurgency, and Terrorism), Sir AK Peters, has released the 2024/2025 national security scorecard, commending the Nigerian Armed Forces for their outstanding commitment to national security and resilience in the face of multiple threats.
Speaking at the BRAVE-IT National Security Breakfast Meeting held Thursday in Abuja, Sir Peters announced that after a comprehensive appraisal based on patriotism, courage, gallantry, motivation, leadership, and alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda, the Armed Forces earned an overall performance score of 81% for the year under review.
“The Nigerian Armed Forces have demonstrated unwavering patriotism and operational excellence in the past year. Their performance is a clear reflection of the strategic direction and renewed motivation under the present administration,” he said.
Highlighting exceptional institutional achievements, BRAVE-IT named the Nigerian Navy as the “Star Service of the Year” with a score of 85%, citing its exemplary leadership, tactical strategy, collaboration with sister agencies, successful rescue missions, and consistent efforts in counterterrorism and community engagement.
“The Navy stands out for its operational brilliance and the confidence it has instilled in local communities,” Peters noted. In a separate category, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) was named “Star Service of the Year 2”, scoring 73%. The agency was applauded for its tireless anti-narcotics campaign, wide-reaching operations, public visibility, staff motivation, and for what BRAVE-IT described as “cleaning up the dirty image of Nigeria.”
According to Peters, the NDLEA has emerged as “a silent but formidable force,” constantly present across the country, day and night, disrupting drug trafficking networks and restoring public confidence. The BRAVE-IT scorecard serves as an annual independent review of security sector performance in Nigeria, recognizing efforts that strengthen the nation’s resilience against violent extremism, insurgency, terrorism, and transnational threats.
