NCC Seizes N50 Million Worth of Suspected Pirated Books in Lagos Raid

The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) has seized books suspected to be pirated, valued at N50 million, in a raid conducted in the Yaba area of Lagos State.

The operation, led by the Deputy Director of Operations for the NCC in Lagos, targeted the Yaba Book Market, where several bookshops and warehouses storing the alleged pirated materials were inspected.

During the operation, five bookshops and three warehouses were identified as storage locations for the unauthorized books.

The NCC confiscated the materials and detained the owners of the bookshops involved.

The commission emphasized its commitment to combating piracy and issued a stern warning to booksellers, schools, and printers regarding the illegal trade of copyrighted materials.

The NCC also stated that it would take strict actions against any school found facilitating the sale of pirated books and urged all involved in the book trade to maintain proper documentation and receipts as proof of the legal purchase of books.

This action is part of the NCC’s ongoing efforts to intensify its enforcement activities and uphold copyright laws in the country.
