The Adamawa State government has entered into a partnership with Aluvia Agriculture to initiate large-scale soybean cultivation in the region, on Monday.
This collaboration, facilitated through the ADAS Programme, aims to enhance agricultural productivity and improve the livelihoods of local farmers.
The pilot project, which will commence in Demsa Local Government Area (LGA), will cover 100 hectares.
This initial phase is designed to assess the feasibility of large-scale soybean production in the region.
By establishing this pilot project, the partners hope to gather valuable insights and data that will inform future expansions of soybean cultivation in Adamawa State.
A significant component of this initiative is the empowerment of local farmers through the formation of cooperatives and cluster structures.
These organizational frameworks are intended to streamline farming operations, improve efficiency, and provide farmers with better access to resources and markets.
Key stakeholders present at the meeting where the agreement was reached included Usman Abubakar, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture and Entrepreneurship; Joseph Uke from Aluvia Agriculture; and Abdullahi Shittu of Fincon Consulting Limited.
Representatives from the ADAS Programme, namely Mr. James Birdling, Dr. Tasiu Idi, and Praise Dauda, also attended the meeting and reaffirmed their commitment to the initiative.
This partnership aligns with Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s administration’s goal of enhancing agribusiness in Adamawa State through the ADAS Programme.
By fostering such collaborations, the administration aims to create a more robust agricultural sector that can significantly benefit the local economy and improve the livelihoods of farmers.
The expected outcomes of this partnership include increased agricultural productivity, improved economic conditions for farmers, and a stronger agribusiness sector in Adamawa State.
As the pilot project progresses, it is anticipated that the lessons learned will pave the way for further agricultural developments in the region.
