Sokoto/Zamfara Customs release 15 detained grain trucks following Presidential food security directive

—

In line with a directive from the President aimed at making sure there’s enough food for everyone, the Sokoto/Zamfara Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service decided on March 12, 2024, in Sokoto, to let go of fifteen trucks loaded with grain to their rightful owners.

The Public Relations Officer of the command, Superintendent of Customs Abdullahi Abubakar, issued a statement about it.

He said that the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Kamal Mohammed, at the handover ceremony in Sokoto, asked the traders to sell the grains quickly in Nigerian markets as a way of appreciating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s kindness.

Comptroller Kamal also mentioned that the Customs Intelligence Unit (CIU) and the Joint Border Patrol Team (JBPT) will work together to make sure the grains are distributed in local markets and not smuggled out of the country.

The CAC warned smugglers strongly, saying that the Nigeria Customs Service, under the leadership of Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, is committed to fighting smuggling.

He said, “We’ve added more patrol fleets to the Command to secure the borders and stop people from doing illegal things for their own benefit.”

Dahiru Ladan, the Secretary of the Grain Sellers Association of Sokoto, thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his decision and promised that the Union would make sure the grains are sold only in Nigerian markets.

The statement said that this effort is to improve food security and protect the country’s interests.

It shows how important it is for government agencies and stakeholders to work together for a better and self-sufficient nation.
