In a bid to enhance user privacy, Google is conducting trials for a novel feature on its Chrome browser aimed at eradicating third-party cookies, commonly utilized by marketers for customer tracking purposes.Â
The initiative, titled Tracking Protection, is scheduled for an initial rollout on January 4, impacting 1% of Chrome users by default, effectively curbing cross-site tracking activities.
The tech giant has set a target to completely discontinue the use of third-party cookies for all Chrome users by the latter half of 2024.
However, the successful execution of this timeline is contingent upon the resolution of antitrust concerns highlighted by the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority.
This progressive move underscores Google’s commitment to bolstering user privacy while acknowledging the pressing need to address regulatory considerations within the digital landscape.
