How FG plans to make 90% of Nigerians digitally literate by 2030 – Minister

Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr ‘Bosun Tijani, unveiled an ambitious plan to enhance digital literacy in Nigeria during a recent appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme.

Dr. Tijani’s vision is for 90 percent of Nigerians to be digitally literate by 2030.

The Digital Literacy Program, as outlined by the minister, aims to provide a foundational understanding of digital technologies to the masses.

Dr. Tijani emphasized that digital literacy doesn’t necessarily mean becoming a technical expert but rather equips individuals to actively participate in the digital economy.

To achieve this goal, the Federal Government plans to train three million Nigerians in technical skills over the next several years. Collaborations with state governments are in progress to ensure comprehensive support for this initiative.

In a move to further strengthen digital skill development, the Federal Government is strategizing to establish hardware training centers in prominent tech hubs like Aba in Abia State and Computer Village in Lagos State.

The objective is to bolster manpower development and create expanded job opportunities for Nigeria’s vast population, which exceeds 200 million people.

This initiative is poised to shape the nation’s digital future and increase its participation in the global digital landscape.
