YouTube Explores “Playable” Games as Video Game Streaming Surges

—

YouTube, one of the leading online streaming platforms, has witnessed over 15 percent of its traffic coming from video game streaming.

In a strategic move to capitalize on this burgeoning audience, YouTube is testing the integration of “Playable” games within its platform.

Currently in the experimental phase, YouTube is allowing select users to natively play video games like “Stack Bounce,” an HTML5-based game, directly on the platform.

These games are accessible through YouTube’s dedicated “Playables” section.

YouTube has plans to make these games available on both mobile apps and desktop versions of the platform.

However, the official launch date for this feature remains uncertain, and it is anticipated that access to these games may be initially restricted to YouTube Premium users.

This initiative appears to be YouTube’s response to the growing trend, similar to Netflix, which also offers simple games based on its movies and shows.

YouTube’s game library is expected to consist mainly of straightforward HTML5-based games, reminiscent of “Stack Bounce.”

It’s worth noting that Google’s parent company, Alphabet, previously ventured into online gaming with the cloud video gaming platform Stadia, which was later discontinued, marking a shift in their approach to the gaming industry.
