YouTube owned by Google has introduced a new feature for its Premium subscribers.
This new feature will allow users to set a sleep timer that pauses playback after a chosen duration.
This addition is designed for those who enjoy falling asleep while watching long videos, such as podcasts or white noise content.
The timer can be set to stop the video after intervals ranging from 10 minutes to the end or the video.
Once the timer ends, YouTube prompts the user to extend the timer if desired.
Currently, this feature is part of an experimental rollout and is available until September 2.
It can be activated on desktop through a specific page or on mobile under the experimental features section in settings.
Although similar sleep timers have been available on other platforms like Spotify and TikTok, YouTube has just now implemented it, showing the platform’s ongoing efforts to enhance user experience.
In the past, YouTube has experimented with other Premium-exclusive features, including an AI assistant for video queries and a lock screen function to prevent accidental touches.
The hope is that the sleep timer will become a permanent feature, possibly extending its availability to all users, not just those on the Premium tier.
