The gospel music community is in mourning after the untimely death of Aduke Ajayi, known professionally as Aduke Gold.
The rising star passed away on Monday, August 12, 2024, at the University College Hospital in Ibadan, following a two-month battle with illness, as reported by a close source. Fellow gospel artist Esther Igbekele confirmed the sad news, sharing a tribute on social media with Aduke Gold’s picture and the caption, “A general has fallen. RIP.”
Aduke Gold’s death comes shortly after the loss of another gospel singer, Egbin Orun, who passed away in April 2024.
Aduke Gold’s breakthrough single, Nitori Ogo (translated as Because of Glory), earned her a significant following. Igbekele wrote, “Despite the competitive nature of the gospel music industry, Aduke Gold made a significant impact with her soul-lifting songs and unwavering dedication to her craft. Her talent and passion earned her a growing fanbase and increasing popularity, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by many.”
Aduke Gold’s lifetime was marked by hardship and perseverance. Orphaned at the age of four, she faced numerous challenges, including a long-term battle with vertigo, which caused frequent fainting spells. Nevertheless, she pursued her education with determination, earning a degree in History and International Relations from Lagos State University and a higher degree in Child Psychology. She also obtained several diplomas in Montessori education, special education, and music.
Aduke Gold was particularly passionate about working with children with special needs, such as autism and dyslexia. She was known for her commitment to providing inclusive education and music therapy to these children.
Initially known as Aduke Penkele, she later adopted the stage name Aduke Gold on the advice of her mentor, Tope Alabi. Her talent shone brightest in live performances, with one of her most memorable moments being her remarkable performance at the first remembrance of the late gospel artist Baba Ara, which propelled her into the spotlight.
As news of her passing spread, tributes from fellow gospel artists and fans began to pour in. One fan wrote, “Aduke Gold’s music touched the hearts of many. Her passion and dedication to both her art and her work with children will never be forgotten.” Another tribute read, “The world has lost a true gem. Aduke’s voice was a blessing, and her work with special needs children was inspiring.”
The cause of Aduke Gold’s death remains unknown at the time of this report.
