The Governor of Yobe State, His Excellency Hon. Mai Mala Buni, CON, held a crucial and extensive meeting with the Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Musa, to address the recent surge in security breaches in the state on Wednesday.
This meeting comes in response to a concerning trend of terrorist incursions, resulting in deadly attacks, loss of lives, and the looting of properties in vulnerable communities, particularly along Yobe State’s border areas.
Governor Buni expressed his deep concern about this new wave of terrorism that has been targeting the state’s border regions.
He emphasized that while there has been significant improvement in security across the state overall, these recent incursions by terrorists have disrupted the peace, particularly in the border communities.
“Generally, there has been a great improvement in security across the state, except for the recent incursions by terrorists from across the borders, who have been attacking our border communities,” Governor Buni stated.
He went on to highlight specific incidents, noting, “Just three days ago, we witnessed a terrorist attack in Mafa, a village on the border with Borno State. A few days prior, another attack occurred in Geidam, a border town near Niger Republic, where several lives were tragically lost.”
Governor Buni expressed his commitment to finding a lasting solution to these repeated attacks. “I have had extensive discussions with the Chief of Defense Staff to ensure that we put an end to these incursions and safeguard our border communities from future attacks,” he said.
“I am pleased with the response I received and the new strategies that the CDS has assured will be implemented to curb this menace and protect the lives and property of our people.”
The governor further assured the people of Yobe State that his administration would continue to support all security agencies in their efforts to combat crime and strengthen peace and security across the state.
In response, General Christopher Musa reaffirmed the military’s commitment to deploying additional personnel and introducing new strategies to end the movements and attacks by the terrorists in the affected areas.
He emphasized that the military would enhance its collaboration with local communities and other security agencies to ensure the collective defeat of terrorism and other forms of crime, not only in Yobe State but across Nigeria as a whole.
The meeting underscored the importance of synergy between the armed forces and the local population in tackling security challenges and restoring lasting peace to affected regions.
