Yobe State Finalising 25-Year Development Plan for Economic Growth

—

The Yobe State government is in the process of finalising an ambitious 25-year development plan, titled “Yobe Development Planning 2050,” aimed at fostering economic recovery and sustained growth.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner of the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Muhammad Garba Gagiyo, during a Town Hall and Consultative Meeting held in Damaturu, focused on gathering input for the state’s 2025 annual budget.

Hon. Gagiyo explained that the town hall meeting was a crucial step in shaping the state’s long-term vision.

It provided an opportunity for citizens to voice their concerns and ideas, which would be incorporated into the 25-year development plan.

According to him, this plan will reflect the aspirations of Yobe’s citizens and serve as a roadmap for government policies, programs, and projects aimed at advancing socio-economic growth.

The “Yobe Development Planning 2050” will guide decision-makers in various key sectors. Among the priorities identified are the construction of roads, the building of modern markets, improvements in educational infrastructure, and the enhancement of healthcare services. These areas are seen as essential for improving the overall quality of life in the state.

Hon. Gagiyo also highlighted other important components of the plan, including revitalizing agriculture, providing decent and affordable housing, and ensuring proper budget formulation and implementation to drive these initiatives.

The development plan is designed to create a sustainable and prosperous future for Yobe State, addressing both immediate needs and long-term goals.

Adding to the discussions, Kenneth Unuafe, the Project Manager of ActionAid Nigeria, emphasized the importance of involving communities in the planning process.

He encouraged participants to strengthen local frameworks that promote social cohesion and community ownership of projects. By ensuring transparency and accountability, the plan can better meet the needs of the people it is intended to serve.

This consultative approach, according to Unuafe, will play a key role in ensuring that the policies formulated are not only effective but also inclusive and reflective of the citizens’ needs, which will be vital for the plan’s successful implementation.
