Yobe Govt shuts 7 illegal health facilities

The government of Yobe has taken decisive action by closing down seven private institutions and clinics involved in health-related training across the state.

Dr. Yusuf Ngamdu, the Executive Secretary of the Yobe Healthcare and Health-related Facilities Inspection and Monitoring Agency (YOHFIMA), revealed this development on Friday in Damaturu.

According to Ngamdu, these facilities were engaging in unauthorized activities, issuing certificates, and providing clinical services beyond the legal limits.

The affected establishments include Medical Career Guidance in Potiskum, North-East Biotech Services Limited, Public Health Consultancy Services in Potiskum, and Auxiliary International Health Sciences Academy in Nguru.

Other entities on the list are Iqmi International Modern School Study Centre in Potiskum, Aminci Nursing Home and Maternity in Damaturu, and an unnamed radio-diagnostic center located opposite the Primary Healthcare Centre in Dogon-Zare, Potiskum.

Dr. Ngamdu emphasized the importance of residents being cautious about these facilities to curb unqualified practices in the health sector.

He also issued a warning to both private and public healthcare facilities in the state, advising them against hiring individuals who have graduated from the aforementioned health-related training institutions, with potential sanctions for non-compliance.

Furthermore, he urged all healthcare facilities, whether public or private, to register with the agency and adhere strictly to its regulations to maintain the standard of healthcare delivery in the state.

This move is aimed at ensuring that both practitioners and establishments in the health sector operate within the legal framework, prioritizing the well-being of the residents.
