Xabi Alonso Calls Chelsea Move a Perfect Project for the Future

Chelsea’s new manager Xabi Alonso has expressed strong confidence in the club’s future, describing his move to Stamford Bridge as an exciting and ambitious project despite the Blues missing out on Champions League football next season.

The News Chronicle reports that the former Liverpool and Real Madrid midfielder has already begun preparations for life in West London ahead of officially resuming duties in July.

In a TV interview in Spain, Alonso recently discussed the transfer and made it plain that Chelsea’s long-term goals persuaded him to take on the difficult task.

The Spaniard added that his choice was independent of the absence of European football since Chelsea continues to rank among the most alluring initiatives in global football. Supporters who see him as the ideal coach to help the squad recover from a difficult campaign are already upbeat about his appointment.

Chelsea is expected to aggressively back Alonso in the transfer market this summer as the club continues to build the squad around experienced players and young talent. Several other players, including Arda Guler and Alvaro Carreras, have been mentioned in connection with possible transfers to Stamford Bridge.

With the preseason fast approaching, attention is turning to how quickly Alonso might influence the team and return Chelsea to the top level of European football.
