X Tests Live Streaming
X (formerly twitter)

X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, is experimenting with live streaming as it moves toward becoming an all-in-one app.

On January 7, 2025, Elon Musk streamed himself playing a video game for nearly two hours, drawing considerable attention from viewers.

This move positions X to compete with established platforms like Twitch and YouTube.

Musk’s live stream saw real-time interactions with viewers, demonstrating X’s ability to offer an engaging streaming experience.

The shift reflects a growing trend in the tech world, where platforms are expanding their features to keep users engaged.

For example, Instagram has added videos and stories beyond its original photo-sharing focus.

For Africa, this development is particularly noteworthy. With growing mobile usage and internet access, platforms like X have the potential to transform how users create and consume digital content.

X’s live streaming feature could open new doors for content creators across the continent.

This is part of a broader push by X to build out its “everything app” vision. Earlier in 2024, X introduced video and audio calling for Android users, expanding its services.
