X Modifies Creator Payouts to Prioritize Engagement Over Ads

—

X, formerly Twitter, has revamped its creator payment system, shifting away from ad-based revenue sharing.

The platform will now pay creators based on the engagement their content generates from Premium users, rather than ads displayed in their replies.

This change comes as X continues to face advertiser boycotts.

With the new model, creators are likely to focus on content that drives discussions and reactions, which could alter the nature of popular posts on the platform.

Some worry that this may encourage posts designed to provoke or stir up heated debates, increasing engagement but lowering content quality.

Currently, creators need to be Verified, have at least 500 followers, and achieve 5 million impressions in three months to qualify for payouts.

As X pushes for more user engagement, creators may produce more attention-grabbing posts ahead of events like the U.S. elections, raising concerns about the spread of misleading or controversial content.
