Nigerian singer Wizkid has become the first African artist to exceed 10 billion streams on Spotify, covering both his solo songs and features.
As of January 2026, Spotify reports show Wizkid leading Africa’s most-streamed artists, ahead of Burna Boy with over 9.5 billion streams and Rema with 5.6 billion. Other top African performers include Tems (4.4 billion streams), Tyla (3.7 billion), and Ayra Starr (3.3 billion).
Global hits played a key role in Wizkid’s achievement. His collaboration with Drake on “One Dance” has nearly four billion streams, while “Essence” featuring Tems has passed 334 million streams. His album “Made in Lagos (Deluxe)”, released in 2021, remains his most-streamed project with over one billion streams.
Wizkid began his career in Lagos, Nigeria, as a teenager with hits like “Holla at Your Boy” (2010) and “Don’t Dull” (2010). Albums such as “Ayo” (2014), “Sounds From the Other Side” (2017), and “Made in Lagos” (2020) helped him reach global audiences.
He has received a Grammy Award and multiple BET, Soul Train, and Billboard Awards.
