The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, reaffirmed the commitment of the FCT Administration to extend development initiatives to rural areas.
This statement was made during his inspection of the ongoing construction of the 11-kilometer Yangoji-Sukuku Ebo-Road and Kwali Unity Bank Road in the Kwali Area Council within the territory.
Wike expressed his genuine delight in witnessing the extension of development efforts to rural communities, stressing the paramount importance of ensuring that these communities also reap the benefits of democracy as outlined in President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda.
He said: “I feel delighted that we are taking development to rural areas.
“For me, it is very important to ensure that while actualising the “Renewed Hope” agenda of President Bola Tinub, rural communities also benefit from dividends of democracy.”
Highlighting the essential role of rural areas within the FCT, Wike emphasized that development should not be solely concentrated in the capital city.
He argued that such an approach would effectively address the prevailing issue of rural-urban migration experienced in the FCT.
According to him, providing essential infrastructure to rural dwellers is imperative for their community’s development and prosperity.
He specifically underscored the significance of constructing roads, stating that they are pivotal for communities to tangibly experience the positive impact of governance.
Furthermore, Wike urged the contracted company, Gilmor Engineering Ltd, to expedite their work to ensure timely completion in line with agreed delivery deadlines.
Additionally, he called upon council chairpersons to actively oversee the execution of these projects rather than solely relying on reports from civil servants.
With a firm commitment to project completion, Wike assured stakeholders that the FCT Administration would spare no effort in ensuring the successful realization of these development initiatives.
