Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has denied reports that he is lobbying to become the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike said he did not need a position in the campaign structure to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The minister made this known in a statement issued on Monday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.
Reacting to reports listing him among those allegedly being considered or lobbying for the position, Wike dismissed the claims as false.
He said he had neither discussed the leadership nor membership of the Presidential Campaign Council with anyone.
“I do not need to be the DG or even a member of the Presidential Campaign Council of Mr President’s political party to contribute my quota by ensuring that he wins handsomely in Rivers State and the FCT,” Wike said.

The former Rivers State governor reaffirmed his commitment to Tinubu’s re-election, saying his priority remained supporting the President’s agenda.
Wike also disclosed that he was currently outside the country on a break after spending more than 30 days commissioning projects, flagging off new ones and inspecting ongoing projects across the FCT.
He said he would return to continue implementing the administration’s mandate in the FCT in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Wike stressed that his support for Tinubu was not dependent on securing any position within the campaign council, adding that his focus was to help the President achieve a strong electoral victory in Rivers State and the FCT.
“My support for President Tinubu is not tied to holding any position in the campaign council. My focus is to ensure that Mr President records a strong electoral victory in Rivers State and the FCT,” he said.
