WhatsApp Testing Third-Party Chats To Comply with EU’s Digital Markets Act

—

In response to the European Union’s Digital Markets Act, Meta-owned WhatsApp has been conducting tests for over two years on integrating third-party messaging apps.
This cross-platform functionality will enable users to exchange messages, videos, images, and files with individuals on different platforms.
For those seeking control, a toggle in WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.6.2 allows users to turn off third-party chats, with developers actively working on refining the feature to let users choose specific apps for communication.
The anticipated rollout of this development is expected in the coming weeks to a couple of months.
Recent updates also include the ability to search for old messages by date and the introduction of a fact-checking chatbot to counteract AI-generated misinformation.
