We’re In Talks With Ghana To Protect Undersea Cables – FG

The federal government has announced ongoing discussions with Ghana and other countries to bolster the protection of undersea cables.
Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, revealed this on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
This comes in the wake of a recent undersea cable cut affecting Ghana, Togo, Senegal, and others.
Tijani stressed the importance of revising international laws and forging partnerships with regional and global bodies to expedite efforts in safeguarding this critical infrastructure.
Acknowledging the impact of the cable cut on various sectors, including banking, telecoms, and allied industries, Tijani commended the collaborative efforts of telecom companies like Glo, WIOCC, MTN, and MainOne in mitigating the disruption.
He assured affected parties of the Nigerian Communications Commission’s commitment to resolving the issue promptly.
The outage has compelled banks, telecoms, and other firms to scale down operations since Thursday.
Companies such as the West African Cable System, African Coast to Europe, SAT3, and MainOne have reported faults or downtime along the West Coast route from Europe.
