We Will Bring Them Home— Tinubu Vows Rescue of Abducted Children, Orders Security Overhaul

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Nigerians that abducted children across the country will not be forgotten, saying his administration is intensifying rescue operations and strengthening school security nationwide.

In his Children’s Day message, the President celebrated Nigerian children across all backgrounds, from high achievers in school to children learning trades, those living with disabilities, and those enduring hardship with resilience.

“Today belongs to you. It is a day to celebrate your innocence, your strength, your creativity, your aspirations, and the immeasurable value you bring to our nation.” He said.

However, Tinubu acknowledged the pain of families whose children remain in captivity, especially in parts of Oyo and Borno States, where some pupils and teachers were abducted.

“As we mark this special day, some Nigerian children and their teachers… are being held captive by criminals,” he said, adding that many parents are united by one desperate prayer: “Bring our children home.”

The President said he had directed security agencies to intensify intelligence-led rescue operations focused on safely recovering abducted children and other vulnerable citizens.

He also announced strengthened school protection measures, including improved vulnerability mapping, better coordination between security agencies and state governments, rapid response systems, and community-based early warning structures.

According to the statement, the Federal Ministry of Education has been directed to deepen implementation of the Safe Schools framework, ensuring clear protocols for emergency response in at-risk areas.

“Every school in a vulnerable area must know who to call, what to do, where to move, and how to protect children,” he said.

Tinubu further stressed the need for post-rescue support, including medical care, counselling, education, and reintegration for affected children.

He also called for stronger community involvement in safeguarding schools, urging parents, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and others to support security efforts.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment, he said investments in education, healthcare, nutrition, social protection, and safer communities are aimed at ensuring every Nigerian child can grow without fear.

“To our children, you matter… your future matters. And we will safeguard it.” He added.
