Warrant Officer Sentenced to 28 Years for Stealing Ammunition and AK-47 Rifle

—

A ruling by the 3rd Division General Court Martial of the Nigerian Army has resulted in the sentencing of Warrant Officer Danladi Shaggy to 28 years in prison, alongside the dismissal of him and five other soldiers, for various misconducts.
The judgment, presided over by Brigadier General Liafis Bello at Maxwell Khobe Cantonment in Jos, Plateau State on Friday, addressed charges such as theft, illegal arms and ammunition trading, intimidation, and fraud.
Warrant Officer Danladi Shaggy was found guilty of stealing 3,870 rounds of 7.26 mm ammunition and an AK-47 rifle, leading to his 28-year prison term, dismissal from service, demotion from warrant officer to private, and a directive to reimburse N5,035,000, the proceeds from his illicit ammunition sales.
The other convicted soldiers are Lance Corporal Suleiman Hassan, Private Oluwaseyi Williams, Lance Corporal Abraham Samson, Sergeant Ibrahim Salihu, Sergeant Musa Ibrahim, Sergeant Nicholas Josephat, and Corporal Isa Ibrahim.
They faced different penalties ranging from dismissal, demotion, to reprimand, depending on the nature of their offenses.
Brigadier General Bello emphasized that the Court Martial followed due process as stipulated in the 1999 Constitution, the Armed Forces Act (Rules and Procedures) of 1972, and relevant laws.
The court thoroughly reviewed the allegations against the soldiers before delivering the verdict.
Earlier this year, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, the General Officer Commanding the 3rd Armoured Division of the Nigerian Army, convened the Court Martial.
