VIDEO: Borno Commissioner Retracts Controversial Comment, Apologises to Residents

The Borno State Commissioner for Youths, Sports and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. Sainna Buba, has formally retracted a controversial comment he made during an empowerment programme organised by the City Boy Movement in Maiduguri.
Buba, in a press briefing, said the remark had generated considerable concern and public reaction, stressing that it was never intended to violate the constitutional rights of citizens to freedom of choice and association.
He explained that he had earlier clarified that the comment was not meant to be taken literally but decided to formally withdraw it following the continued public concern.
“I am using this medium to retract my earlier statement formally and to apologise to the entire people of Borno State and beyond for any offence it may have caused,” the commissioner said.
Buba also distanced the Borno State Government and the All Progressives Congress (APC) from his earlier remark, saying it did not represent the ideals of the party or the administration of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum.
He maintained that the Zulum administration does not undermine the rights of citizens and remains committed to respecting every segment of society, particularly young people.
According to him, Governor Zulum and the APC have demonstrated democratic principles throughout the past seven years and will continue to uphold the rights and freedoms of the people until the end of the governor’s tenure.
