Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface has shared an inspiring quote about how he used to spend N30 to watch Champions League football in viewing centers at the Army Barracks in Akure, and how he is now fulfilling his dream by making his debut in the UEFA Champions League.
The Bayer Leverkusen forward, known for his memes on social media, shared this:
“From paying N30 to watch Champions League football at night back then at 323 Army Barracks, Akure, to playing my first Champions League game. Proud of this moment.”
Boniface started the game against Feyenoord last night for Bayer Leverkusen, who made their first qualification in 1997. He was substituted in the 62nd minute, making way for Schick.
Bayer ran riot against Feyenoord with a 4-0 scoreline, with goals coming from Florian Wirtz, Grimaldo, and an own goal. Although Boniface, who has reignited his form this campaign with his club, did not score in any of the four goals.
Victor, 23, started his football career with Real Sapphire FC in Lagos around 2019. He joined Bodo/Glimt the same year and had an excellent two-year run that led him to switch club allegiance to Union SG in Belgium, from where he joined Bayer Leverkusen in 2023.
The center forward has scored 24 goals and registered 11 assists since moving to Leverkusen. He also played a crucial role in the club’s historic win of the Bundesliga last season. In his time with the club, he has the DFB-Pokal and the DFL Super Cup to his name.
