The UEFA Champions League matchday one continued on Thursday, with Arsenal, Benfica, Bayer Leverkusen, Atletico Madrid, Brest, and Monaco securing crucial victories over their opponents.
Ademola Lookman’s Atalanta and Arsenal shared the spoils after brilliant saves from David Raya helped the Gunners hold the home team to a stalemate at full time in Italy.
Barcelona’s first defeat of the season came in Monaco, France, after an early red card to Garcia reduced the La Liga side to 10 men. It was their second consecutive game with a red card, although they pulled through in the first. 17-year-old Lamine Yamal scored Barcelona’s only goal in that game.
Atletico Madrid overpowered Leipzig in the second half to earn all three points in Spain, with Gimenez’s goal following a sublime assist from Antoine Griezmann, who had scored Madrid’s first goal.
Bayer Leverkusen ransacked Feyenoord away from home in a massive 0-4 victory. With a Florian Wirtz brace, a Grimaldo goal, and a horrendous own goal from Feyenoord, the Dutch side suffered a heavy defeat at home.
