A United States Congressman, Rep. Riley Moore, has assured that the US will work with Nigeria to ensure all Nigerians can live and practise their faith without fear of persecution or death.
Moore gave the assurance in a post on his verified X handle on Saturday while reacting to ongoing security collaboration between both countries.
He described the establishment of the U.S.–Nigeria Working Group as a “necessary and encouraging step” toward strengthening cooperation in tackling Nigeria’s security challenges, promoting religious freedom, and ending what he called the brutal persecution of Christians by radical Islamist terrorists.
According to the lawmaker, the partnership presents Nigeria with a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity” to deepen ties with the United States, counter violent extremism across the North and Middle Belt, and build the capacity to serve as a stabilising force in the region.
Moore said the agreement signals Nigeria’s seriousness in addressing its security crisis, noting that both nations have committed to ensuring Nigerians can practise their faith freely and safely.
“While there is still much work to be done, we are seeing positive developments,” he added, expressing gratitude to the Nigerian government for engaging the US in good faith to confront the country’s security and economic challenges.
