University of Maiduguri Bans Tinted Glass Vehicles, Gives One-Week Grace Period

—

The University of Maiduguri has issued a directive restricting vehicles with tinted glasses and covered number plates within its campus, citing security concerns.

In an internal memorandum dated March 27, 2026 obtained by The News Chronicle, the institution’s Security Division said the decision followed deliberations at the Top Management Committee’s 137th meeting, where members expressed worry over the continued use of tinted vehicles despite an existing ban.

According to the notice, all vehicle owners with tinted glasses are required to comply within a one week grace period from the date of the announcement.

The university warned that after the expiration of the grace period, the Tinted Glasses Enforcement Team would be authorized to remove tinted glasses found on vehicles within the premises.

The Security Division appealed to staff, students, and the university community to cooperate with the directive to maintain security, safety, and orderliness across the campus.

The memo was signed by Chief Security Officer, Major Abiya Mohammed (Rtd.).
