The University of Abuja security personnel, acting on orders from the authorities, arrested Channels TV journalists and damaged their equipment on Tuesday morning.Â
This occurred during a crisis Senate meeting to address resistance to the imposition of Acting VC Prof. Aisha Maikudi as the substantive Vice-Chancellor.
A petition submitted to the Minister of Education in November by concerned academic staff alleged irregularities in the VC selection process.
Critics claim the governing council relaxed qualification standards to favor Maikudi, reportedly influenced by former VC Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah.
The controversy has raised concerns over transparency in the university’s leadership appointment process.
