Umahi to join APC soon- Imo Governor, Uzodinma

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma has confirmed that Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi will formally join the ruling All progressive Congress (APC).
Uzodinma made this confirmation to newsmen on Monday in Abuja at the national secretariat of the APC.
There have been speculations over the political future of the Ebonyi State Governor, with rumours having it that he wants to join APC to contest the Presidential election in 2023.
The rumour was allegedly fueled by the decision of the opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP), not to zone the seat to the Southeast.
Speaking in Abuja today, the Imo Governor said the development is indicative that the entire South-East geopolitical zone will soon embrace the APC.
Uzodinma who met behind closed doors with members of the Governor Mai Mala Buni led caretaker committee of the party, assured that the APC will sweep the Imo North Senatorial poll scheduled to hold on December 6 this year.
“I told you that the moment I assume office as governor of Imo State,  the negative mentality of our people in the Southeast towards APC will change. Today, we are also having more credible persons from the zone joining the party, the latest of whom will be the governor of Ebonyi State. It will be my pleasure to welcome him and I know that this will mark more breakthrough for our great party in the Southeast,” Uzodinma enthused.
The Imo Governor expressed preference for Frank Ibezim, who emerged from the rival primary organised by the Chairman and Secretary of the APC Senatorial Primary Election Primary Committee, as against Senator Ifeanyi Ararume announced winner in the alternate primary endorsed by other members of the committee.
In his words, “the main thing is for our party to win the election. The party has an internal mechanism for resolving such issues and when that comes, we will address that.”
