UCL: Shakhtar Donetsk hands Barcelona their first defeat, while Newcastle crumbles at Dortmund

Barcelona’s unbeaten run in the UEFA Champions League group stage has been jeopardized by Ukrainian outfit Shakhtar following a 1-0 slim victory over La Liga giant Barcelona tonight at the Volksparkstadion Stadium, in Hamburg. Regardless of the defeat Barcelona still lead with 9 points in Group H.

Silkan Danylo’s 40th-minute strike made this set Barcelona underway until full-time. Xavi, despite resorting to making four technical changes between the 59th and 60th, still was unable to break through the well-coordinated Shakhtar defense.

The defeat means defending champions Manchester City, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Bayern Munich remain the only sides without a defeat in this stage of the tournament.

Newcastle United with a disappointing defeat away at Dortmund could be relegated to the bottom of the group F should AC Milan triumph over PSG. The Magpies after their controversial victory over Arsenal in the English Premier during the weekend have suffered a 2-0 to their host.

The BVB lead over Newcastle, scoring their goals in both halves of the tie. Ukrainian player Fullkrug and Julian Brandt’s 26th and 79th minute strikes respectively handed the Yellow and Blacks their convincing victory. Dortmund moves to the top of Group F ahead of PSG, who have a game in hand.
