The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has expressed deep sorrow over the deadly attack on Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School Maga in Kebbi State which occurred in the early hours of Monday.
The incident, which resulted in the tragic killing of a teacher and the abduction of several female students, has drawn nationwide grief and condemnation.
In a statement issued from its headquarters in Abuja, the Executive Secretary of UBEC, Aisha Garba, described the attack as heartbreaking and a painful reminder of the threats facing education in some parts of the country.
She extended the Commission’s condolences to the Kebbi State Government, the Kebbi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), and the people of Kebbi State, noting that UBEC shares in their pain, their fear, and their hope.
Aisha Garba paid tribute to the slain teacher whom she called a brave soul who made the ultimate sacrifice while doing what teachers across our nation do every day caring for and protecting our children.
She also prayed for the recovery of an injured staff member and expressed solidarity with the families of the abducted girls, assuring them that they are not alone in this moment of anguish.
The UBEC Executive Secretary reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to working with federal and state authorities, security agencies, community leaders, and SUBEBs to strengthen school safety and support affected communities.
