Troops of the 151 Task Force Battalion have neutralised three suspected Boko Haram terrorists following an ambush along the Maiduguri-Miyanti-Banki Junction route in Borno State.
The attack occurred at about 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday September 1, 2026, when troops conducting route-scanning operations along the major highway came under attack from terrorist elements.
Security sources said the attackers first detonated a concealed improvised explosive device (IED) before opening fire on the troops.
The soldiers, however, fought through the ambush and immediately launched an exploitation operation to pursue and engage the fleeing attackers.
During the encounter, three suspected terrorists were reportedly neutralised, while troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, an AK-47 magazine, 14 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and one concealed IED.
One soldier sustained injuries during the engagement and was evacuated to the 21 Specialised Brigade Hospital in Maiduguri, where he is said to be in stable condition and receiving medical treatment.
The attack also caused damage to the windscreen of one of the military gun trucks.
The incident underscores the continued threat posed by terrorist elements operating along major transportation corridors in Borno State, particularly through the use of IEDs and ambush tactics against military patrols.
The military said the security situation across the theatre remained generally calm but unpredictable, adding that troops continued to maintain satisfactory morale and combat effectiveness.
It added that offensive operations and route-clearance activities were ongoing to disrupt terrorist networks, prevent attacks and safeguard civilians and motorists across the theatre.
