United States President Donald Trump has called on major oil importing nations to deploy naval vessels to help secure the Strait of Hormuz as tensions with Iran continue to rise.
Countries dependent on energy imports across the narrow route should bear more responsibility for maintaining the passage open and safe for worldwide commerce, Trump stated in a statement published on his Truth Social platform. Between Oman and Iran, the strait transports almost one-fifth of worldwide oil and liquefied natural gas exports, making it among the most vital energy corridors in the world.
Trump recommended that countries like as China, France, Japan, South Korea, and the United Kingdom could provide marine force to help the United States support maritime security initiatives.
The News Chronicle understands that the proposal comes as military activity in the region intensifies following escalating confrontations involving Iran and Western allies, raising concerns about disruptions to international oil supply chains.
With crude oil prices soaring amid uncertainty over shipping safety in the Gulf, recent military events have already raised worries in the energy industry.
As world powers consider alternatives to safeguard commercial shipping and uphold stability along one of the busiest oil routes in the world, security issues have also driven Western governments to examine their military position in nearby territories including the eastern Mediterranean and Gulf seas.
