Veteran Nigerian actor Abiodun Ayoyinka, popularly known for his iconic role as Papa Ajasco in the long-running comedy series Papa Ajasco & Company, has cried out over his financial struggles despite decades in the entertainment industry.
The 65-year-old actor revealed that he was paid N22,500 per episode when he started playing the role in 1997 but now earns only N45,000 per episode in 2026.
Speaking about his situation, Ayoyinka said he still does not own a house or a car despite portraying one of Nigeria’s most recognizable television characters for many years.
According to him, the character “Papa Ajasco” is legally registered by the creator of the show, Wale Adenuga, which prevents him from using the character independently for endorsements or commercial deals without permission.
Ayoyinka lamented that things have not been easy for him over the years, noting that the limited pay and restrictions surrounding the character have made it difficult for him to improve his financial situation.
The actor’s revelation has sparked reactions on social media, with many Nigerians expressing sympathy and calling for better welfare and recognition for veteran actors who contributed significantly to the growth of the country’s entertainment industry.
