US President Donald Trump has revealed a redesigned American passport featuring his own image, as part of a limited edition marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
The White House announced in April 2026 that a special passport would be issued alongside celebrations for the anniversary, due in July. The design is expected to be available to any American citizen who applies for a passport, as well as at the Washington Passport Agency.
Trump shared the design on his Truth Social account on Saturday, 27 June 2026, writing: “The U.S.A.’s New Passport, which says, ‘Welcome, but be good!’ President DJT.”
The passport page shows Trump’s image and signature alongside the well-known artwork depicting the signing of the Declaration of Independence, with the words “United States of America” and the number “250” printed beneath it.
The design drew mixed reaction online. Some users called it the “most patriotic US passport ever,” while others questioned the decision to feature the president’s own image on a document marking 250 years of American history. One user wrote: “The United States has 250 years of history, and Trump still looked at the passport and thought: Needs more me.”
Others pointed out that the limited edition is commemorative and separate from the standard passport issued to most citizens. One comment read: “Thank God: the Trump image passport is a limited-edition commemorative passport, not the standard passport that most Americans receive.”
On the US news programme “The Weekend,” co-host Jackie Alemany described the design to her panel on Saturday, prompting laughter among the hosts. Boston Globe columnist Kimberly Atkins Stohr asked: “Does he understand what a passport does? A passport allows you to travel—,” before co-host Eugene Daniels interjected: “To leave the country!”
No official explanation has been given for why Trump’s own image was included on the passport design.
